Fennel and Radish Salad with Lemon Zest

Ooo...I'd been really ill. I've never had a bug that bad in all my life. I was quite busy in February and my immune system must have gone down. I'm just about all right now :) My homeopathic doctor conveniently lives downstairs and she gave me something to have, and that helped.

Now, to continue the subject I was trying to talk about in my previous post, science cannot explain some things that it cannot prove their effectiveness through evidence but still work for some people - like homeopathy or NLP or whatever 'alternative'. The problem (for me) is when it can't a lot of scientists and/or scientifically-minded people dismiss them as 'not scientifically proven'. They go in denial, and they even despise the people who use these 'alternative' methods as some sort of quacks. There's not even a room for a dialogue. I find that this is a big unhealthy mistake.

Having said that, there have been some interesting situations (again, for me) recently. Scientists are in trouble. Look at all the arguments on global warming, vaccine, GM food, etc. They are fighting between themselves and against the public and the media. I think they need help.

We cannot, have never been, and never will be able to live without science. I think scientists should make clear of what they know and what they don't know and learn to communicate effectively like politicians do. They have to learn to abandon this narrow-minded righteousness and to be more open for dialogues. There's no denying that there's always probabilities and possibilities. Things would be easier if people are more open to these things, you know.

Now that I feel a bit better I need some vitamins and minerals. This salad is fennel whose antacid (you see, I know a few scientific words) quality is scientifically proven.

It's not even a recipe. You slice two fennel bulbs very thinly and do the same with a bunch of radishes. Put them into a large bowl, sprinkle some salt, and massage them. A lot of water comes out after a few minutes, so squeeze the water out. This process leave the vegetables really crunchy. Grate some lemon zest and mix them. Add chopped parsley, some olive oil, and black pepper.
