Broccoli is one of the most misunderstood vegetables, I think. It's a bit like carrots. My brother says broccoli, carrots, and swedes are very boring and they are meant for cattle. I wonder if it's the cook who is boring, not the vegetables... Having said that, I must say I quite agree with my brother on the swedes front. I find them very watery and wishy-washy.
It's the same kind of distaste towards wishy-washy handshakes to me. I've lived in London for 23 years now and I'm pretty much used to seeing and meeting weird looking people. I don't particularly have any prejudice against the way people look and how they are dressed. The problem I have, however, is a handshake. When someone's handshake is wishy-washy I tend to expect that the person is wishy-washy, and that's an instant decision on the first encounter. I know it's bad but I can't help it.
Handshakes do tell the personality, though. Wet ones are nervous people, jelly ones are reserved people with not much confidence, bone crushing ones are authoritative and intimidating people, finger (not palm) touching ones are either shy or distant, etc. Some people hang on to your hand longer than you expect. Some people shake hands more than once, i.e. vigorous ones. But then, all these might be some kind of misunderstanding like broccoli is misunderstood.
What's a handshake got to do broccoli? Nothing, really.
This is one of the recipes that brighten up the boring broccoli, and you should definitely try it. One broccoli and one egg. Cut the broccoli into a bit larger than bite size. Boil them briefly and leave them to cool. Boil a hard-boiled egg. Cool it under tap water, remove the shell, and chop into tiny pieces. Make some mustard dressing and pour over the broccoli. Scatter the egg bits prettily.
