Yesterday morning when I had loads of stuff to do I somehow decided to open a Facebook account. I had an invite from someone that I haven't seen for ages, so I thought I would quickly make an account so that I can respond.
It wasn't a quick job at all. I ended up spending a good hour going through the names that I might know from the past. It was amazing how Facebook collected all these people I know or used to know. I started thinking, "Wow...what's she doing there?" or "Oh yeah, I used to work with him!" and went through hundreds of names and faces. I was clicking away 'Add as friends' without realising that I was actually sending invites to all these people.
Call me ignorant, but I have never been interested in Facebook. I'm always in touch with people that I want to be in touch, after all. As a result of firing away the invites, I got some response, including the one I originally wanted to get in touch with. I posted all my 'favourites' and was satisfied. I should have stopped there.
A nosy person as I am I started looking into other people's (i.e. "friends") profiles. What I've found is everyone I looked at had at least 100 friends. Even someone who I thought had no friends actually had 210 friends. One guy I used to know had 4,481 friends. I probably have less than 10 friends... I started taking this personally and felt like I'm a loser in a popularity contest.
It was nice that I got in touch with a few people and there are many more I would like to get in touch, but after an hour of agitation I decided to come back to my reality and normality, i.e. doing my job as a mum and a language teacher :)
Ingredients (for 2 pint oven dish):
(for the fruits)
3 Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into an inch cubes
150g blackberries
1 tablespoon of Golden Syrup
(for the crumble)
160g plain flour
80g cold butter
80g sugar
Preheat oven to 200C.
Mix all the fruit ingredients in an oven-proof dish. Put the ingredients for the crumble in a large bowl and rub in the butter into flour and sugar until they resemble wet sand. The way I do it is to squeeze a handful of the crumble mixture and crumble on top of the fruits so that I have sandy bits and lumpy bits (as you can see in the photo).
Bake in the oven for about half an hour.
